Destination: Chicago, IL

Chicago is the nation’s third largest city, famous for its ethnic neighborhoods and cuisine as well as its colorful history. After Reconstruction, Chicago’s swan song of new opportunities attracted African Americans from the newly freed South. With them came the Blues, Jazz, Pullman Porters and so much more. Experience the “Windy City” for yourself at the Taste of Chicago, in Millennium Park, on Lake Michigan and at the top of the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower).
Below are some cultural attractions that you can experience while in Chicago.
Black Ensemble Cultural Center
Chicago’s historic and legendary Black Ensemble Theater is celebrating it’s 35th birthday and the opening of the New Black Ensemble Cultural Center with The Jackie Wilson Story, the kickoff for the 2011-2012 season entitled "Legendary Season of Rhythm and Blues."
The Jackie Wilson Story, an audience favorite that was revamped for the new season, premiered at the new, sleek and modern 299-seat venue, to a host of both old and new fans. Written, directed and produced by theater founder and director Jackie Taylor, the story serves as the ultimate tribute to the late soul singer.
The story takes the audience back through a timeline of the key moments of his life beginning with his days in a Detroit street gang, his strong bond with his mother Eliza Mae (Dawn Bless), his brief stint as a member of the Dominoes, his marriage accompanied by various infidelities, alcohol and substance abuse, shady record label executives, but most importantly, his passion to sing and entertain, thus earning him the nickname of "Mr. Excitement."
